DAY 1 – Airport – Negambo

A very warm welcome from your tour guide at the Katunayaka airport. You will be transferred to your hotel where you can relax by the pool.

DAY 2 – Negambo – Pinnawella – Sigiriya

In the morning we leave for Pinnawella, an elephant orphanage where you can observe herds of elephants making their way down to the river or take part in feeding baby elephants. You can also enjoy optional elephant riding at approximately AUD$20. Next we proceed to Sigiriya, the ‘Lion Rock’ – an UNESCO World Heritage listed site. You will climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD), and experience fascinating frescoes, remains of the palace and breathtaking views.

DAY 3 – SigiryaAnuradhapuraPollonaruwa

We leave Sigirya and start our journey to the sacred city of Anuradhapura,established around a cutting from the Buddha’s fig tree brought there in 3rd century BC. Anuradhapura was Sri Lanka’s capital for 1,300 years, until 993. After Anuradhapura we travel to Pollonaruwa – the second capital of Sri Lanka, where you can explore Brahmatic monuments built by the Cholas and monumental ruins of the fabulous garden city created by Parakramabahu in the 12th century. Both Anuradapura and Polonnaruwa are UNESCO listed Heritage cites.

DAY 4 – Pollonaruwa – DambullaKandy

After breakfast we leave for Golden Temple of Dambulla, another UNESCO World Heritage listed site. It is the largest and best preserved cave temple in Sri Lanka. Following the visit to the temple we will proceed to Kandy, the second largest city in Sri Lanka, where we will visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world and another UNESCO World Heritage listed site. In the evening we will enjoy famous Kandy Dance Show.

DAY 5 – Kandy Nuwara Elliya

In the morning we leave for Nuwara Elliya – a city in a hilly country with temperate climate and picturesque landscape. You will observe luscious green tea plantations and beautiful waterfalls. We will visit a tea factory and observe the manufacturing process of tea. You will learn about the tea-grading process and taste pure Ceylon tea.

 

DAY 6 – Nuwara ElliyaElla – Yala

After breakfast we leave for Yala via Ella where you can enjoy stunning views through the Ella Gap situated at 1,041 meters above the sea level. You will check in to your hotel where you can relax by the pool and enjoy Sri Lankan or Western cuisine.

DAY 7 – Yala Unawatuna

In the morning we depart for a safari tour in the famous Yala National Park where you can observe herds of elephants, wild buffalo, sambar deer, leopards and exotic birds. After lunch we visit Udawalawe elephant orphanage and view feeding of the baby elephants. We will proceed to Unaewatuna – a coastal town famous for its beautiful beaches and coral. You will check in to your hotel, relax by the pool and enjoy a dinner on the beach.

DAY 8 – Unawatuna – Relaxing

Today you can enjoy optional blue whale and dolphin watching cruise and and/or a visit to UNESCO World Heritage listed Galle Fort – first built by the Portuguese in 1588 and later extensively fortified by the Dutch from 1649 onwards, explore numerous jewellery shops or enjoy a famous Ayuverdic treatment.

DAY 9 – Unawatuna – Colombo

In the morning we leave for Colombo, famous for its shopping and nightlife. On the way we will stop at a famous Sri Lankan mask factory and a turtle hatchery where you can release baby turtles on their way to the ocean. You will check in to your hotel, relax by the pool and explore Colombo at your leisure.

DAY 10 – Colombo – airport.

Leave for the airport for departure.
